The Summit began with three afternoon sessions of interest to IGEL alumni, guests and students of Agnes Scott College:
Reflecting on Environmental Protection in Georgia led by Leonard Ledbetter - AMEC, former EPD Director and DNR Commissioner; Steve O'Day - Smith, Gambrell & Russell, and Moderator, Rob Williams - IGEL/Georgia State University.
Behavioral Change to Achieve Sustainability Goals led by Ciannat Howett - Emory University; Susan Kidd - Agnes Scott College; Steve Olson - IGEL/Georgia State University and Moderator, Gail Cowie – Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
Career Paths and Leadership in the Environmental Field led by Dennis Creech – Southface; Sandra Neuse – Georgia Board of Regents; Ben Jordan - The Coca Cola Company and Moderator, Denise Grabowski – Symbioscity
Following the sessions, participants were treated to an informal tour of Agnes Scott College and had a chance to re-connect with others. The group then participated in the Plenary Session with Patty McIntosh, IGEL Board Chair, welcoming Summit participants and recognizing Summit sponsors. Susan Kidd introduced Dr. Elizabeth Kiss, President of Agnes Scott College, who spoke to the group assembled.
A Legislative Update of top issues coming before the 2012 General Assembly was presented by IGEL alumni Katie Kirkpatrick (Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce), Todd Edwards (Association County Commissioners of Georgia), and Will Wingate (Georgia Conservancy), with Judy Adler (Turner Foundation) serving as moderator.
Barbara Gallo, Rob Williams and Steve Olson celebrated the recently graduated Class of 2011 and introduced the incoming Class of 2012. A memorial for Marlin Gottchalk, IGEL Class III, was presented by Dennis Creech.
Patty McIntosh concluded the program with a summary of IGEL accomplishments, and Marci Reed announced results of the very successful Alumni Fundraising Campaign by class competition. Class 2010 had the highest number of participants, and Class VI (2007) gave the largest amount of gifts to IGEL.
A reception followed with IGEL alumni reconnecting, congratulating graduates of Class 2011, and welcoming the Class of 2012.
Many thanks to our Summit sponsors, speakers, alumni donors and participants!
